AoS Carol Concert

09th December 2014

Seafarers are a talented bunch indeed! Our Felixstowe port chaplain Sr Marian Davey recently organised an AoS Carol Concert at her local parish and struck on a brilliant idea to record seafarers to singing carols on video and show them during the concert.

So she got together crew members from two ships - Suecia Seaways and Nor Feeder – and challenged them to an X factor style sing-off.
Needless to say, the seafarers were up for it and gave it their all! The concert itself was great fun and well worth the hard work.
There was a lot of collaboration between supporters to get the videos on to a disc to show to the audience. Well done to them!

Sr Marian said: “It was well worth their efforts as those who attended the concert loved the clips which enabled the seafarers to engage with a local parish event.
“It brought a smile to everyone present and was an event which highlighted their vital role in our everyday lives.
“One of the themes of the concert was ‘let the seafarers inspire us to enter the season of Advent with open hearts’. For the sake of their families they are far from home this Christmas so let them lead us out of our comfort zone to Bethlehem," said Sr Marian.
Whilst Sr Marian had quite a bit of input towards the concert herself, lots of others played different roles including transport, setting up the videos and preparing a spread of international food.
There was also a Filipino choir and two other local church choirs. The local parish provided the hall free of charge and a hospitality team for refreshments. Donations worth £478 were also collected on the way out.
