Pupils visit cruise ship

06th July 2016

On 5th July, 11 schoolchildren from St George Catholic school in Southampton together with the school chaplain Ruth Cunio, AoS Southampton assistant port chaplain Peter Morgan and AoS South Coast port chaplain Rev Roger Stone were invited to visit Queen Elizabeth at Ccean Terminal, Southampton.
They were on board for three hours during which time the students had a tour of the ship and met senior officers on the bridge, officers and crew on various decks on the ship and conversed with a number of crew in the crew mess.
The pupils had a wonderful time and their eyes were opened to the sort of life that the men and women who work on a cruise ship have.
One of the Filipino seafarers shared with them how he leaves his family behind for nine months and works every day on the ship so that his Family may have a better life than he has.
The students will go and speak about their experience on Sea Sunday in their local churches.
