Nun on the run for AoS

13th April 2015

Running nun Sr M. Augustine Peters will this May take part in the Dorchester Lions Club fun run to raise funds for Apostleship of the Sea (AoS).
Falmouth-based Sr Augustine, who is with the Order of Les Filles De La Croix, says she is delighted to be doing the 2K run for AoS.
Already in her 70s, she has been running for charity since 1984. “As a parish here in Falmouth [St Mary’s Immaculate] we support our seafarers all the time especially at Easter and Christmas” says Sr Augustine.
She recalled, “I had a cousin, Fr Denis McGuinness, who was very involved in AoS. He used to visit us in Tipperary and I remember my mother saying that he worked with sailors in England.”
Sr Augustine who runs in her habit and trainers says her best preparation is securing sponsors. “People are very generous. I am determined to work hard on this as I do every year. I have 30 years of experience. This is my 31st year!”
The Fun Run on May 10th will start and finish at Dorchester Middle School. Please do show your support for Sr Augustine and for seafarers!
