A Ministry of Gentleness
13th February 2017
Fr Colum Kelly, our Immingham port chaplain, was a guest on BBC Radio Humberside’s Thought for the Day. We rely on voluntary contributions to sustain our work. Please make a donation today and help us continue our work supporting seafarers
He reflects on how the world today is getting harsher and more aggressive, making gentleness a virtue that is hard to find.
Fr Colum says there seems to be no place for gentleness in such a world. He continues, "A gentle person treads lightly, listens carefully, looks tenderly through eyes of kindness, takes time to understand the needs of others."
He reminds us that "our gentleness can be a vivid reminder of the presence of a loving God among us."
Fr Colum's reflection captures the essence of our ministry with seafarers - a ministry of being, a ministry of gentleness - listening, caring, understanding the needs of the seafarers we serve.
Fr Colum concludes by saying, "Be gentle with ourselves and each other." We could not agree more. You can listen to the recording here.
