Apostleship of the Sea is a frontline service for the care of seafarers visiting British shores

We provide practical and pastoral care to all seafarers. Our port chaplains and volunteer ship visitors welcome seafarers, offer welfare services and advice, practical help, care and friendship, according to our guiding principles of Mission, Solidarity, Welfare and Hospitality. Apostleship of the Sea in the UK is part of an international network known to the maritime world as Stella Maris. You can visit the International Website by clicking on this link.

90% of world trade is transported by ship. However the life of a modern seafarer can be dangerous and lonely. They may spend up to a year at a time away from home, separated from their family and loved ones and often working in harsh conditions.

Apostleship of the Sea relies wholly on voluntary contributions. We are only able to continue our work through the generous donations of our supporters and volunteers.

Case Study

You’ll probably never meet Ali or anyone like him.

To most, he and other seafarers are invisible. Yet we rely on seafarers for almost everything we eat or use in our daily lives. To fulfil our demands Ali works away from home for up to a year at a time, facing danger, isolation, loneliness and exploitation. Without cargo and freight transport, within three weeks the UK would starve.

Who will be there for him when he comes to our shores?

The importance of seafarers and the need to protect crew rights is paramount. Seafarers are unrecognised heroes upon whom the prosperity of millions of people depend and without them world trade would come to an abrupt halt.

Can we afford to let this happen? Can you afford to give?

Newsflash!

We would like to say thank you to Seafarers UK for granting us a sum of £25000 towards our chaplains work with seafarers, providing a proactive ship-visiting service to merchant ships visiting Great Britain.
