Legacies & in Memoriam
Will your legacy help to secure the future for all seafarers? Please remember us in your will to allow us to continue our vital support of seafarers. When you make your will, we sincerely hope that you will remember seafarers and the work of the Apostleship of the Sea. If you do, you will be helping us to continue providing pastoral and practical care to all seafarers who visit UK ports and to enable us to secure a long-term financial base. |

How to go about it When you decide to make your will, the best person to discuss it with is your solicitor. Although there are DIY will kits, at Apostleship of the Sea we strongly recommend that you seek legal advice. Consulting a solicitor need not be expensive if you are making a simple will, and it will give you peace of mind to know that everything has been carried out correctly. Many things can be included in a will, such as business interests, jewellery, cars and other assets – and, of course, gifts to charity. |
|
There are three types of gifts that you can bequest. They are as follows:
Residuary Gift – this is a gift of the whole or a share of whatever remains of your estate after all other gifts have been distributed and any debts paid off. Pecuniary Gift – this is a fixed sum of money you decide to leave to a charity, such as AoS. You can protect this type of gift from inflation by linking it to the Retail Price Index (RPI). Specific Gift – this is a tangible item such as a house, piece of jewellery, antique or a car. |
|
Lastly, if you decide to make a gift to us then we would really be grateful if you could tell us about it. This will assist us in planning future expenditure on our charitable mission – although we hope it will be a long time before your gift is realised.
