AoS at CSAN

18th June 2013

Lay Port Chaplains (pictured below), Tony McAvoy (Tees) and Anne McLaren (Humber) came together from opposite ends of the diocese to represent AoS at the Middlesbrough Diocesan Caritas Roadshow, 'Witness of Charity' which proved to be a huge success.
The roadshow took place at All Saints School, York, with 130 delegates from many different charities displaying literature and information on more than 40 stalls in a buzzing ‘Market Place’.  A group of Year 9 pupils from All Saints School set the scene for the day with a moving liturgy and this was followed by an address by Bishop Terry Drainey who outlined the current picture of social need in the Diocese.  Former MP John Battle then spoke to the delegates, encouraging them to interact and share details and experience of their work with others. Helen O'Brien also gave a presentation on Caritas in England and Wales.
Later in the day, delegates had a choice of four interesting workshops facilitated by Depaul Nightstop UK, Thrive Teesside, Justice First and CAUSE (Catholics Against Unemployment and Social Evils) which they could attend. We are told that the feedback from the event was extremely positive with many expressing surprise at the amount of social action work taking place in the diocese and requesting further opportunities to come together in this way.
